7000-Series Cars Debut on Metro's Red Line
This morning, the Red Line got its first taste of the new 7000-series cars. The first car left from Shady Grove at 7:01am. (The Blue Line got them in April). The cars have event recorders, digital video surveillance systems, and special features to help the car stay upright and on track in the event of a collision, reports DCist. Riders will also appreciate the nonslip floors, padded blue seats and LED screens that display route information. So far Metro has ordered 528 7000-series cars to replace the entire 1000-series, which has been with the service since the Bicentennial. [DCist]
