It's a Brand New West End Library (For Now)

Washington, D.C.

Last night, we stopped by Penzance's Watergate office building for a celebration of the opening of the West End Interim Library on the ground floor, where we snapped DC Public Library executive director Rich Reyes-Gavilan flanked by DC Public Library Foundation executive director Linnea Hagerty and Susan Haight, president of the West End Library Friends. While EastBanc redevelops the library's current building at 24th and L, it's taken on the new, historic digs for three years.

The library uses 5,000 SF in what used to be the Saks Jandel space, and Linnea tells us it offers features the original spot didn't have, such as a meeting room that can be used for functions and even yoga classes for the community. She says she's also excited that the library can now reach a new audience, such as residents of the Watergate and its office workers.
