We joined more than 300 who braved today's wind and rain for the 7th annual College Success Foundation breakfast at the Mandarin Oriental, including Rooney Properties president Jim Lee and City Interests founder Alan Novak. CSF helps kids in DC’s Wards 7 and 8 get into college, pay for it, and succeed; founded with support from the Gates Foundation, it's given scholarships to 1,200 DC students since 2008. Meantime, Alan's been actively developing east of the Anacostia for 10 years and is currently working on a major education and job training facility there. He also developed the Mandarin Oriental. As for Jim, he's working a project at the Robinson North Terminal in Old Town that will include condos, a hotel, and retail.

The breakfast was underwritten by Costco, a longtime CSF supporter. Here's Costco co-founder Jim Sinegal, right, with Margaret Davis of the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, Graham Holdings' CEO Don Graham, and Deborah Carstens of Carstens Family Funds.
