Bob Carr Retires After Decades Developing In DC
After more than four decades in commercial real estate, Carr Properties Vice Chairman Bob Carr can look back on a development portfolio that includes some of the most memorable projects in the District.
Bob has retired, noting that the time was right to step aside and let the next generation take over, the Washington Business Journal reports. He's a still-young 67, but he's been developing in the city for decades. We snapped him, on the right, in 2014.
"Looking back on it, the most memorable things for me have been, first, the wonderful projects I was able to build and, second, doing it in a way that I really cared about the people I worked with," Bob says.
After an extensive run at the helm of CarrAmerica Urban Development, he joined forces with his younger brother, Oliver Carr III, to launch Carr Properties in 2007. Among the projects that strike a chord with Carr are the restoration and conversion of the historic Willard Hotel, which now operates as the Willard InterContinental Washington. He also fondly recalls the Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue, a revolutionary combination of a museum along with residential and offices.
Among the projects in Carr’s pipeline is The Wendy’s Courthouse Site, which is slated to be transformed into a 185k SF, 12-story office building with 7k SF of retail and a public plaza. Carr is also building Fannie Mae's downtown HQ where the old WaPo building once stood. [WBJ]
