Courthouse Parking Lot to be Transformed into Green Plaza
The huge surface parking lot in Courthouse is likely history. The several-acre lot sits between the AMC movie theater and the Arlington County Courthouse, and will likely be replaced by a hybrid park/grove/plaza open space. Parking would be moved underground, and the open space will be surrounded by increased density, ARLnow reports. That could include the county offices, overlooking the lot at 2100 Clarendon Blvd, moving to a new building the government would own instead of continuing to lease from Vornado/Charles E. Smith. It could also mean the end of the AMC theater, famous for its plush recliners and assigned seating. The plan calls for that space to be redeveloped with a 100-foot-tall commercial building in its place. The Board will likely vote on the plan in September. [AN]
