Crystal City was the place to celebrate dads this past Sunday, when the palpable purr of engines, high horsepower and flashy finishes lured area dads for an afternoon of automotive attractions at the Annual Father's Day Auto Show. About 70 unique vehicles were showcased for thousands of dads and their families.

“Crystal Car makes it easy to honor dad on his special day with a fun, free, pop-up outdoor beer garden full of cool cars and live music,” said Crystal City Business Improvement District CEO Angela Fox. “At the same time, we’re able to highlight Crystal City’s accessibility and our abundant supply of convenient and free parking.”

Crystal City’s many parking garages contain over 4,000 spaces that are free to visitors arriving after 4pm on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays.

The venue for the auto festival was a surface parking lot between 20th and 23rd streets, just behind Crystal City’s retail corridor, Crystal Drive. The proximity to delicious food made it easy for attendees to refuel their tanks and recharge their batteries.

Vehicles were organized into six different categories: Electric/Hybrid, Classic/Antique (pre-1975), Muscle Car (1965-1975), Street Machine (1975-Present), Import, and Truck/SUV. Prizes were awarded to the top three cars in each. You can view the winners here.

The day also included an exciting line-up of live music on two separate stages, the beer garden, sponsored by the Washington Wine Academy, and fun kids’ activities, like the moon bounce and wooden car painting station.  Mark your calendars for next year’s event.
