DC Unemployment Report Shows Positive Signs for Commercial Real Estate
In June, the DC unemployment rate dropped to 7%, down from 7.3% In May. The total number of unemployed residents in the District also decreased in June to 26,900, from 28,100 in May. Digging even deeper into the data from the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services, there are some positive notes: Construction jobs are up by 2.8% compared to a year ago; there's been a solid 3.2% increase in professional and business services jobs with 5,100 additional jobs since last year; and financial activities added another 200 jobs in June, increasing gains since last year to 1.6%. In contrast, the leisure and hospitality industry has been less fortunate, losing 500 jobs in June for a total decrease of 0.4% since last year. [DHCD]
