Loudoun's Restaurant Boom!
Diners are forgoing chicken in buckets for more authentic food, which is why a restaurant revolution is taking over Loudoun County. And it’s also why we're excited to host Bisnow’s upcoming Loudoun County Boom and Schmooze Retail Revolution! at Smokehouse Live on Aug. 27, starting at 3pm.
Event speaker and Rappaport president Henry Fonvielle, snapped visiting Italy with his family this summer, says Plaza Azteca, which has several locations in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, will open in September. Two more restaurants will be announced next month—a farm-to-table concept with a Big Ten theme (think University of Maryland and crab cakes); and a noodle and dumpling full-service restaurant.
Bonchon opened a few weeks ago in Leesburg, known for its authentic Korean fried chicken. Henry says Loudoun’s restaurant boom is being driven by people wanting more authentic food and having the time, energy and money to seek it out. “People are being more selective about what they eat,” adds Henry. “Millennials aren’t doing fast food the way we did.”
Calkain president/CEO Jonathan Hipp, also speaking at our event, is negotiating a contract for a DC Prime Steakhouse, an upscale steak and seafood restaurant located in Ashburn. Calkain will close on over $20M in retail/restaurant transactions in Loudoun before the end of the year.
Sense of Thai St. opened this summer in One Loudoun and has been a popular summer spot. Interest in Loudoun is coming from local and national publicly traded REITS, high-net-worth families and 1031 exchange buyers, says Jonathan. They’re attracted to Loudoun’s disposable income and young population.
