Owner Of Franklin Court Files $2M Lawsuit Against GSA
The owners of a District building that was once home to the NLRB have filed suit against the General Services Administration.
At issue is whether the GSA is responsible for unpaid rent at Franklin Court, a 460k SF building at 1099 14th St. Florida Retirement System Trust Fund, Franklin Court’s owners, slapped a $2M lawsuit on the GSA after the agency denied its claim for the unpaid rent, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The NLRB had occupied space at the building since 1992, and agreed to vacate part of its leased space to make room for another tenant, Millennium Challenge Corp. A planned move for the NLRB to 1015 Half St SE was delayed due to a planning oversight, prompting the agency to maintain its server room in part of the vacated space at Franklin Court. Millennium balked at working around the equipment and delayed its move, while the GSA stopped paying rent to the tune of $58.75 per SF, or nearly $2M.
The case now rests in the hands of the US Court of Federal Claims. Earlier this month, the GSA outlined its top priorities for the coming fiscal year. A server room for the NLRB did not make the cut. [WBJ]
