IKEA Eyes Second Distribution Center in Joliet
IKEA definitely wants to make Joliet its Midwestern hub. It already has plans to build a 1M SF-plus distribution center on 62 acres it wants to buy across from a Laraway Crossings Business Park site it acquired in 2007, where it will build a 1.4M SF center slated to open summer 2017. If the plan is approved and the land purchase goes through, more than 10,000 of the Swedish home goods store's products will move through this hub, the Chicago Tribune reports. IKEA will also check to see if the facility can handle on-site power generating. IKEA has two West Coast distribution centers and three East Coast centers. [CT]
