JBG Breaks Ground at 13th and U

Placeholder

Yesterday, JBG broke ground on its newest project, a 129-unit, mixed-use building that'll replace the Rite Aid on the corner of 13th and U streets NW. There'll be a mix of affordable and market rate units in the eight-story building, and the Rite Aid will be going right back in the ground floor when it opens. Snapped at the groundbreaking: Mazi Mutafa of Words Beats & Life (which is putting a 264-foot mural on the temporary construction wall), Council member Brianne Nadeau, JBG's Kai Reynolds, Mayor Muriel Bowser, JBG's Craig Ciekot, Britt Snider and Will Leibner, and the ANC's James Turner.

The building will be called 13th | U, and Rite Aid will fill more than half of the 16k SF of ground-floor retail. Across the street from the U Street/Cardozo Metro station, it's just the latest in a handful of developments JBG owns in the area, like the Trader Joe's in Louis at 14th and the under-construction Atlantic Plumbing site on 8th and V. The construction is expected to last about two years.
