Luxury Condos To Be Built In Old Helicopter Factory
An old helicopter motor factory near Columbia Heights could become the latest funky conversion to a luxury residential property in DC.
DC-based Brick Lane Real Estate is teaming up with Brook Rose Development for a project dubbed the Helicopter Factory, at 770-774 Girard St NW, which will be completed in two phases, the Washington Business Journal reports. The site is the former home of Berliner’s Gyro Motor Co and Standard Material Co and currently includes a trio of brick warehouses, two of which have been designated as historic.
Brook Rose acquired the property in January 2014 for $1.9M. Brick Lane recently purchased the site for $3.95M and retained Brook Rose as a partner.
Phase 1 is scheduled to begin immediately and will consist of six new industrial-style rowhouses with 13 for-sale units fronting Girard Street. The warehouses at the back of the lot will be completely transformed into luxury condominiums for Phase 2 of the project. Plans call for either a single 7.6k SF unit or a pair of units, with one spanning 5.1k SF and the other totaling 2.5k SF. [WBJ]
