Self-Storage Marketplace SpareFoot Raises $33M
SpareFoot wants to be the Booking.com of storage, and it’s off to a good start, reports Venture Beat. The Austin-based self-storage marketplace raised $33M, led by Revolution Growth, and including Insight Venture Partners and Monkfish Equity. SpareFoot employs the “marketplace” business model in the $22B self-storage industry. Since its inception in 2008, it has already built a network of 9,400 facilities nationwide, and partnerships with such storage and moving companies as AAA, ForRent.com, Penske Truck Rental and SelfStorage.com. To date, it has raised $59M total, and employs 200 people, aiming to grow to 280 by the end of the year. [VB]
