What DC Can Learn from Hollywood
Hollywood doesn't just do make-believe anymore. Its real estate industry is creating fantastic realities as well—like the coolest creative mixed-use.
As you can see, the crowd of 350 for our Future of Hollywood Summit the other day didn't look like Millennials or entertainment folks (i.e., they're wearing retro attire called business suits), but they certainly know the preferences of those other groups, and that's what they're aiming to provide. They believe the keys to attracting high-energy young people to work in the neighborhood are in close proximity to affordable multifamily…
…and a "sense of place" at the office. Watch the video above and imagine an urban campus like this in DC, rather than just office buildings facing the street. No wonder Viacom has taken a third of the 625k SF for MTV, BET, and Comedy Central. And why cutting-edge coworking space Neuehouse has taken 93k SF.
Another thing that attracts people to Hollywood: hip-looking hotels. We love holding our events there. We just wish their prices weren't so high style as well.
