District Issues Another RFP For Hill East Boys & Girls Club Site
After a plan to build affordable housing fell through at a former Boys & Girls Club site in Hill East, DC is going back to the drawing board.
The District issued an RFP for the 31k SF building at 261 17th St. SE, the Washington Business Journal reports.
DC purchased the 80-year-old building, which has been vacant for a decade, from the Boys & Girls Club for $20M in 2010. It issued its first RFP in 2014 and awarded the project to Dantes Partners and The Menkiti Group with a plan for 100% affordable housing. That selection was met with opposition from the neighborhood and the District canceled the RFP in 2015.
The property is zoned for at least 60% residential, and it can also include a school, a place of worship or a clinic. The community will have a voice in the selection as part of DC's new Our RFP process, which was first used for the Crummell School in Ivy City. The first public meeting was held on Jan. 28 and the next will be on Feb. 16. [WBJ]
