Historic Ballston Graveyard Appears To Be Preserved In Updated Redevelopment Plans
A plan to build a 132-unit project on the site of an old Ballston Church has stalled due to concerns over the historic graveyard on the site, but it appears the developer may be integrating the cemetery into its design.
Updated renderings for the project at 4201 Fairfax Drive show the fenced-in graveyard included with the building, ARLnow reports.
The site may include the 150-year-old remains of the neighborhood's namesake, Robert Ball, and his family, although they could potentially have been moved. Living members of the Ball family said in December they wanted a design that preserved the integrity of the cemetery.
Ballston Station Housing Corp is partnering with Bozzuto on the project, which would include a new space for the church, plus day care and preschool facilities. [ARLnow]
