CoreSite Plans Massive Data Center After Acquiring 22-Acre Reston Office Park
CoreSite Realty Corp is planning to build a massive data center in Reston just off the Dulles Toll Road.
The data center supplier just bought the 22-acre Sunrise Technology Park, above, from Brookfield Office Properties for $60M. The site is home to four office buildings totaling 315k SF, but CoreSite says it could build a data center of at least 660k SF on the site, the Washington Business Journal reports.
CoreSite plans to convert one 48k SF building into a data center and build two additional 92k SF buildings. It expects to break ground on Phase 1 of the project, which will cost roughly $90M, in Q3 2017 and then deliver it in Q2 2018. In total, the multi-phase project could cost as much as $500M.
The company already owns 460k SF of Reston data centers, including one that opened in January 2015. [WBJ]
