UMMS To Keep Laurel Hospital Open Through 2017, Revisit Plans
After announcing plans last year to close its regional hospital in Laurel, Dimensions Healthcare Systems—the Prince George's County-controlled operating company—will now keep the hospital open at least through 2017.
University of Maryland Medical System CEO Bob Chrencik said yesterday that the medical system will work with community parters to revisit plans for the hospital, the Washington Business Journal reports.
Due to lagging revenue and admissions, Dimensions had planned to turn the hospital into a $24M ambulatory care center by 2018. UMMS is preparing to take control of Dimensions and plans to rebrand the hospital in the next year.
Dimensions is also working with UMMS on the $650M Largo Regional Medical Center, which county executive Rushern Baker tells Bisnow will be a game-changing world-class facility. Baker will speak at Bisnow's sixth annual Future of Prince George's County event this afternoon. [WBJ]
