Hilton Discovers Pike & Rose
America's biggest hotel chain has decided "lifestyle" is where its at. And it's testing out a new such brand in lil' ol' North Bethesda.
Tysons-based Hilton announced yesterday it will put its "Canopy" flag on Federal Realty/Buccini Pollin's 177-room hotel, to be built just behind where Federal's Vanessa Rodriguez and Evan Goldman stand in this picture. The property will include a flexible first-floor space that changes from day to night, in place of a standard lobby. Hilton's taking the brand to 11 other locations, including Portland, Miami, and San Diego. (Based on the dual sunglasses look, maybe they could also use an actual, sun-blocking canopy.)
Federal CEO Don Wood told us today the hotel will be a regional draw for both business and leisure since it's "set within the vibrant mix of chef-driven restaurants, rooftop music venue, and high-end theaters." The nine-story hotel will be a centerpiece of the second phase of Pike & Rose when it delivers in 2016, and Federal will build 100 condos.
