Peebles Wins 5th and Eye Sweepstakes
Developer Don Peebles, along with partner Walker Group, has won the highly sought after RFP to redevelop a District-owned site at 5th and Eye streets in Mount Vernon Triangle. Don, who's also rehabbing Philly's Family Court Building into a Kimpton hotel (as we reported earlier this year) plans to build a Standard Hotel, ground-floor retail, and 59 residential units, as well as pitching in $2M for park improvements. Peebles/Walker also threw in the offer of building 100 affordable housing units near the Anacostia Metro as part of the deal.

Mayor Gray's office says the team won because it provided the highest monetary value for the land (to achieve that, you could build nothing and just put an Amazon Prime membership on the ground), as well as more planned affordable housing units than the competition. Macfarlane Partners and Standard Group are also part of the winning group.
