The Fairmont Hotel in the West End is set to kick off a major $27M renovation project, its first full renovation since 2002.

MetLife purchased the hotel at 2401 M St NW for $180M last December with an eye towards a major overhaul. The 415-room property will undergo floor by floor renovation starting this month with completion scheduled for April 2016, the Washington Business Journal reports. Rooms will be revamped with a gray and white palate with purple accents and be updated with new, walk-in showers. Additional plans call for an update to the amphitheater-style meeting room, transforming it into a 2.9k SF junior ballroom to attract more events and meetings.

The Fairmont’s renovation is the latest of several makeovers for DC-area hotels, including the Mayflower’s recent overhaul of its guest rooms. With a booming DC hotel market showing no signs of slowing down, we can expect area hotels to continue efforts to spruce up their locations in a bid to attract guests[WBJ]
