New, 170-Room Cambria Hotel Coming To Potomac Yard
Choice Hotels recently launched an aggressive expansion strategy for its upscale Cambria Hotels brand, and now it is bringing the flag to Alexandria.
The Rockville-based hotel company is buying a parcel of land in Potomac Yard to develop a 170-room hotel, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The hotel will sit at the corner of U.S. Route 1 and East Glebe Road, near the site of the planned Potomac Yard Metro station. That station, expected to open in 2021, is the impetus for a major pipeline of development spearheaded by JBG Smith.
This will be the first Cambria in Northern Virginia. D.C. has one Cambria Hotel & Suites just north of the convention center, and suburban Maryland has two, in Rockville and College Park. Choice has looked at doing an adaptive reuse of an office or industrial-style retail building into a Cambria hotel in the D.C. area, just as it did with a 22-story office tower in Chicago.
