New Owner Of D.C.'s Kimpton Rouge Hotel Launches $20M Renovation
The Kimpton Rouge hotel near Dupont Circle will close for several months as its new owner embarks on an extensive renovation project.
Kemmons Wilson Cos. announced Monday the hotel at 1315 16th St. NW will close later this week through the fall for a $20M repositioning project that will include the addition of seven new rooms.
The room renovations will include new carpet, wall coverings, furniture, lighting and a bathroom remodel. The hotel will also welcome a new restaurant, add a landscaped patio area, meeting spaces and a rooftop bar. The project will bring its room count from 137 to 144.
Pebblebrook Hotel Trust sold the hotel in September to Kemmons Wilson and Valor Hospitality Partners for $42M, the Washington Business Journal reported. It is one of several properties Pebblebrook sold following its acquisition of LaSalle Hotel Properties.
The hotel, which opened in 2002, sits near the intersection of 16th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, about a half-mile from the Dupont Circle Metro station. The owner is working with design firms Mason Studio and BBGM and general contractor First Finish on the renovation project.
“Dupont Circle is one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Washington, D.C., and the changes we are making to the property will reflect both the Kimpton brand and the lively area,” Kimpton Rouge Hotel General Manager Raeshawna Scott said in a release.
