Winery Outside Of DC Hitting The Market

Placeholder

A 39-acre property outside of DC that includes vineyards and a tasting room is set to hit the market, presenting a rare opportunity for aspiring vintners to enter their dream business.

Athena Vineyards and Winery is a four-parcel property on Virginia’s Northern Neck, about a three-hour drive from DC and a 90-minute drive from Richmond, that includes a winery building, 14 acres of vineyards, a tasting room and a barrel room. The property is set to go up for auction on April 21, Urban Turf reports.

Everything you’ll need to get started is built into the sale, including wine formulas, equipment and online branding. The vineyard produces a wide variety of wines such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc.

Athena was started back in 2002 by three retired nurses, who have been drawn back by the lure of retirement and decided to part ways with their wine-making venture. Among the local competition for the DC area's future wine entrepreneurs is Early Mountain in Madison, VA, which is owned by AOL founders Jean and Steve Case[UT]
