Construction Begins On 450K SF Springfield Sports Complex
The D.C.-area pipeline has several major sports complexes in it, and one of the largest broke ground Thursday in Fairfax County.
Partners Kendrick Ashton and Craig Dixon are teaming up with private equity firm Cain International to build The St. James, a 450K SF sports complex on a 20-acre campus in Springfield.
The development team, which includes Bohler Engineering, celebrated the groundbreaking yesterday and was joined by Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin.
The 24/7 sports complex is expected to open in September 2018 and began pre-sales Thursday. It has a wide range of sports venues, including a turf field with 65-foot roof clearances, two ice rinks, four basketball courts, a 50-meter pool, six batting cages, a squash and golf center, a gymnastics center and a climbing wall. All fields, courts, rinks and the pool meet the regulations for the highest level of their respective sports.
The St. James also includes a 50K SF health club with cardio and strength training equipment, a 20K SF entertainment center with obstacle courses, zip lines and climbing walls and a 6K SF indoor water park. Additionally, it will include a spa with massage rooms and a sports medicine center with rehabilitation services.
The complex will also have retail offerings, including a restaurant and café and a store with sneakers, apparel, technology and equipment.
