Edens is adding to the extensive residential pipeline around Union Market with plans for a 325-unit residential building.

The developer, partnering with Boston-based UDR Inc., filed plans last week for a 320K SF project at 500 Penn St. NE that will incorporate the industrial elements of the existing property, the Washington Business Journal reports

The 12-story residential building with 24K SF of ground-floor retail would sit one block north of Union Market, next to the Angelika Pop-Up movie theater. The warehouse building on the property, built in 1957, was formerly home to the Maurice Electric Supply Co.

The booming Union Market area already has three developments under construction. LCOR and Edens' 187-unit The Edison apartment building, anchored by Trader Joe's, is delivering later this summer on the corner of Florida Avenue and 4th Street. Next to that, Edens, Level 2 and Trammell Crow broke ground last summer on a 432-unit project anchored by a 20K SF Latin marketplace created by Jose Garces. Next to The Edison on Florida Avenue, Level 2, Federal Capital Partners and Clark Enterprises broke ground in February on The Highline, a 318-unit apartment building with ground-floor retail expected to deliver in 2019.
