Shaw’s Scripture Cathedral Church To Be Transformed Into Residential And Retail
The longtime home of a church in the Shaw neighborhood is set to be transformed into a residential and retail development.
Four Points is heading up a development group that has filed a planned unit development at the site of the Scripture Cathedral Church at 810 O St NW. The development has the backing of the local ANC, and was unanimously approved by the Historic Preservation Review Board last year, Urban Turf reports.
Plans call for 66 residential units that will mainly consist of flats, but will also include some two-story townhomes. Also included will be 7k SF of retail, and a two-level, underground parking garage with 68 parking spaces. Gensler is project architect for the redevelopment of the church, which was sold a few years back for $10.5M.
This the latest—but far from the only—development planned for the red-hot area of Shaw. While new developments, such as JBG’s Atlantic Plumbing, have helped to serve the neighborhood’s residential needs, there are still plenty of items on the wish list of area residents. [UT]
