New Research Reveals Millennials Like Walking More Than Any Previous Generation
In a surprise to no one, Millennials prefer walking and using public transportation far more than previous generations. What does jump out in a new study from the National Association of Realtors is just how much more the newest generation of professionals loves to hoof it: 83% of Millennials like to walk and 71% like to drive, the biggest gap of any generation. By every metric the NAR looked into, Millennials like walking more than Generation X, the Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation. That includes more than half of young professionals saying they prefer living in attached housing close to shops. Thirty-two percent of Millennials walk to work or school, compared to 19% of Gen X and 13% of Baby Boomers. Wondering what the takeaway is? The biggest population group in the country is going to continue to gravitate toward mixed-use development, ground-floor retail and short commutes.
