15 Things You Need to Know This Morning
What You Don't Know About Aaron Georgelas

Photo: Finishing Leadville 100 in Colorado in 11 hours, 36 minutes. Two sons helped at the finish line. Photo was turned into promotional ad six months later. 
Title: Partner, Georgelas Group.
Company: 50-year-old developer with 20 employees, focused on DC region – close to 7M SF under management or in development. 
Job: Manages firm’s mixed-use development in Tysons – Georgelas, along with Trex Capital and Dierman Realty Group, will develop or sell 4k multi-family units and 3M SF of hotel, office, and retail. Travels 10% for conferences and a few projects outside the region, including a recent Dewey Beach hotel to condo conversion. 
Memorable project: The Halstead on Columbia Pike in Arlington 13 years ago. Acquired three pieces of land that had few rights, entitled them for 400-500 percent increase in density, and sold to DSF Group within 14 months. Was first and last project done with late father, Thomas. 
Current project: Delivering residential and then office (when it comes back) at Spring Hill Station in Tysons West. Entire project includes 7.6M SF of office, retail, residential, and hotel. Recently worked on land transactions for The Ascent and The Elan, also in Tysons West.
Why CRE career: Former product strategist in the data center division at Nortel Networks – heavy focus on global real estate and data centers. Fascinated by the process.
Grew up: McLean – remembers riding bike down Chain Bridge Road onto C&O canal path and into city with brothers and cousins. “Think E.T. but without the aliens.”
Current home: Vienna.
School: University of Utah - third generation grad. 
First job: Landscape laborer at age 13. Job was to put out mulch and plant grass. 
Job in another life: Camp counselor for First Descents, nonprofit that takes young cancer survivors on outdoor adventure trips.
Greatest fear: “Losing one of my children.”
Daily habit: Bicycling – occasionally does the 30-minute ride into work but mostly bikes on WO&D trail.
Favorite app: Uber. 
Favorite movie: Life is Beautiful (1998).
Favorite restaurant: Bazin’s On Church (Vienna). 
Favorite book: God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut.
Favorite vacation spot: Leadville, Colo. – visit regularly for bike and running races. 
Guilty pleasures: pizza and Popeye’s fried chicken.
Bucket list: Trip around the world with best friends. 
Family facts: Married 11 years; 2 boys (5 and 7).
Hobbies: Biking, skiing, woodworking, and working on old cars. Just finished restoring 1974 Bronco. Now looking for next car, which will either be an old Corvette or a 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 convertible. 
Startling fact: Race mountain bikes 4-5 times per year with titanium hip. (Inherited narrow joint arthritis.)
