What You Didn’t Know About Anthony Chang

Title: Senior director of asset management, office, Washington Real Estate Investment Trust.
Job: Responsible for Virginia office portfolio – 2M SF.
On the job: 10 months.
Company: One of few REITs with office, multifamily and retail; $3b in assets and 183 employees, focused in DC metro. 
Memorable project: Advising Cvent on search for new HQ with colleagues at Cassidy Turley. Tech firm moved into 130k SF at Greensboro Station in Tysons as first anchor tenant in 2013.
Current project: $35M redevelopment of Silverline Center, including new curtainwall with 270 programmable LED lights, 7 million colors for unique branding opportunity. Also includes new restaurant, coffee shop and golf simulator. 
CRE career: Started at Tishman Speyer, managing NBC facilities in 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Challenges includes 9/11 and anthrax in Tom Brokaw’s studio a month later. 
Grew up: Hopewell Junction, NY.
Current home: Merrifield.
Why DC: To be closer to family. 
Schools: Cornell for undergrad, NYU for MS in real estate. 
First job: Summers at Washington Sailing Marina in college – grunt work and renting sailboats. 
Job in another life: Captain of the Starship Enterprise.
Daily habit: Metro commute downtown.

Favorite song: “Happy” is the family anthem.

Guilty pleasures: Shoeshines and fresh cannoli.
Bucket list: Eat through San Pellegrino’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Family: Married four years to Michelle, who’s developing luxury apartments with Vornado; son (almost 3) and daughter (almost 1) and a dog.  
Hobbies: Biking with kids wherever possible.
Startling fact: Biked from Georgetown to Pittsburgh along C&O and GAP. Planning to do it again with kids.
