Why DC: Determined to move to DC or NYC after college. Was recruited to be an investment broker at Ferris & Co.
School: Wake Forest.
Volunteer work: Washington Tennis and Education Foundation and Children’s National Medical Center.
First job: Delivering papers and mowing grass.
Daily habit: Serial to-do list writer—“plan your work, work your plan.”
Favorite apps: Shazam, GoPro, Uber, MapMyRide, Parkmobile and Imap.
Favorite restaurant: Everything from eastern North Carolina BBQ to sushi from Nobu. Meals are a tasting opportunity, so order many dishes and share them.
Favorite song: “I Can’t Help Myself” by the Four Tops.
Favorite music: Almost any Motown single—“makes me think of driving to the beach with our children.”
Favorite vacation spot: Anywhere there’s skiing, surfing, biking or tennis.
Guilty pleasure: Silver Patron Margarita on the rocks (no salt).
Bucket list: Surfing in Costa Rica.
Family: Youngest of five children—siblings all had a hand in his upbringing. Married to Lee 22 years; daughter (20) and son (17).
Hobbies: Skiing, surfing, biking, tennis and coaching ski racing at Wintergreen Resort.
Person most admired: Mother Margaret, who graduated from UNC Chapel Hill law school in 1943 during WWII. Was one of a few graduates in her class and the only woman. Was also the first woman admitted to the Bar Association in Southeastern North Carolina. “A petite lady with tremendous will, charisma, wisdom, integrity and work ethic and an incredible inspiration to me. She would be 98 years old this month and everyday I’m driven by her love and energy.”
