Mill Creek Eyes a Bigger Future in DC
Mill Creek Residential Trust has set its sights on expanding in the DC region, says Mill Creek senior managing director Sean Caldwell (here with his wife, Cathi, and his kids, 22-year-old Jesse, 20-year-old Dov, and 14-year-old Lyana). Sean, who'll be speaking at our multi-day, national Bisnow Multifamily Annual Summit (BMAC) at the JW Marriott Nov. 24 and 25, tells us that he and his acquisitions team—Peter Melmed, Amirali Nasserian, Kim Stummer, and Josh Posnick—have cast a wide net, looking for opportunities surrounding Fort Meade, the SW Waterfront, and along the Silver Line. Key wants: good transportation and lifestyle for the future residents.
Mill Creek already has a sizeable footprint here; it's stabilizing 603 apartment homes at the Trilogy NoMa (pictured) community and is behind new projects Modera Avenir, Modera Mosaic, Modera Fairfax Ridge, and Modera Tempo, with more than 1,580 homes and 140k square feet of retail. There are also communities slated to break ground soon, he says, including a JV with the Howard Hughes Cos at Landmark Mall in West Alexandria, where Hughes will develop 280k SF of new retail (led by Gabe Chung and John Simon) and 380 Mill Creek apartment homes, which Amirali is running point on. If you’re looking for Sean this week, you can find him in Munich at Oktoberfest. (It’s never too early to celebrate—which is why we just left our Halloween decorations up from last year.)
