D.C.-based real estate firm Edge has recruited a veteran broker from Newmark Knight Frank to help launch a new business line.

Edge announced Monday it hired Ryan Ogden, previously a senior managing director at NKF, as a partner and founder of its new Multifamily Capital Markets Group.

The firm, which changed its name from Edge Commercial Real Estate, is also promoting Jared Emery from director of strategy to partner, and he will work with Ogden on the new group. Based in the firm's 1828 L St. NW office, the team aims to recruit more people and expand nationally. It will focus on representing buyers of multifamily investment properties.

Ogden in 2011 founded the ARA Mid-Atlantic office, which Newmark later acquired. Previously, he spent 12 years with The Bozzuto Group, where he served as managing partner of acquisitions and asset management.

"Edge’s robust, institutional-grade infrastructure offers every resource needed to service our clients and possesses the structure needed to act quickly and effectively on behalf of our clients," Ogden said in a release. "My comfort level with the leaders of Edge was immediate, and this association provides us with the opportunity to be extremely nimble and grow in the manner we believe is much more results capable."

Founded in 2007, Edge leases and manages over 8.5M SF of office, flex-office, industrial and retail space. The latest announcement represents its first foray into the multifamily industry.

“With Ryan leading the effort, this is the perfect time for Edge to expand our services into the multifamily sector and we look forward to quickly expanding the platform and make our mark both locally and nationally,” Edge Managing Partner Joseph A. Sutton Jr. said.
