Massive Controversial Development Planned for Mount Vernon Square Site
The Bush Cos has big plans for a giant residential project at the site of the Museum Square Apartments (pictured)…but these plans are far from set. The project, which could be one of the largest residential projects in a long time, involves demolishing the Section 8 housing development and replacing it with two buildings of 825 residential units. There would be a 14-story apartment building with 450 rental units facing K Street NW, and a 13-story, 370-unit condo fronting L Street NW, according to Urban Turf. The WDG Architecture-designed buildings will have a four-story parking garage and about 17k SF of retail space. Right now, there's a series of ongoing lawsuits between Bush and tenants of Museum Square, so it's unclear whether the plans will move forward. However, initial plans slated groundbreaking for Q2 2016, the delivery of the the condos in summer 2018, and apartments in late 2018. [UT]
