Renaissance Centro's plans to build a 20-story condo tower near Reston Town Center have hit a roadblock.

The Reston Planning and Zoning Committee last week rejected the proposal for a 150-unit high-rise project at 1801 Old Reston Ave., RestonNow reports

The committee voted 6-5 against the proposal, with those opposed saying it did not fit with the comprehensive plan because it would be 85 feet taller than the neighboring building.

The developer can now revise the proposal and reappear before the committee. The project, proposed in January, would be built on a 1.5-acre lot currently home to a three-story office building. It would include 126 market-rate units and 24 workforce units, plus amenities such as an outdoor recreation center with a pool and a fitness center.

Renaissance Centro CEO Sonny Small told Bisnow last year he sees pent-up demand for for-sale multifamily projects in Fairfax County. The developer is also planning a 120-unit condo project in Tysons
