Goldstar Now Planning 33-Condo, 9-Story Building At 14th And U
Goldstar Group has revised its plans for a redevelopment of two historic properties in response to recommendations from the Historic Preservation Review Board.
The developer had originally proposed a 25-unit development at 1355-1357 U St NW, but the HPRB requested that the setback be increased in exchange for a taller building. Goldstar has since revised its plans, and is now proposing a nine-story building with 33 condos, Urban Turf reports.
The ANC 1B Zoning, Preservation & Development Committee is already on board with the new plans, and has unanimously recommended full ANC support for the redevelopment of the site, which currently houses two rowhouses. Two or three of the condo units will be marked as affordable, and the project will also include a retail component on the basement, ground and second floors. Antunovich Associates has been tasked with design for the project, which will now head back to the HPRB for approval.
The proposed project's site is not far from Somerset Development’s mixed-use project near the corner of 14th and U Streets NW. Plans for that project call for 366 units, 96 of which will be affordable, and 14k SF of retail. [UT]
