To Beaux Arts or Not to Beaux Arts
Architects at LSC Design are still in the beginning stages of a $20M, 103-unit SA+A-developed apartment building in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District, so they're still unsure what direction to take. In last week's Urban Design and Architecture Review Panel meeting, LSC pitched a Beaux Arts-style "object building" much like the University of Baltimore John and Frances Angelos Law Center, but that's a far cry from the city's brick industrial buildings and row houses, Curbed DC reports. Designers are working with the community to strike a balance between a fun, playful design that will encourage visitors and one that will fit in with the community. The artist-centric building at 20 E Lanvale St will include a Milk & Honey café and an artist gallery. Its 500 SF apartments are expected to ask $1,100. Construction is slated to begin this fall.
