Travis Price Designing More Shipping Container Condos, This Time In Brookland

Travis Price recently designed a condo building made of shipping containers in Shaw, and the architect is now bringing the same concept to Brookland.

The residential building will go up on the site of a former Safeway—now a vacant medical office building—at 1201 Franklin St NE, UrbanTurf reports.

The building, rendered above, will have four two-bedroom apartments made out of shipping containers, with loft living rooms and private balconies. The building will also include ground-floor retail space and is slated to deliver next year. Property records indicate the site is owned by Joseph Hinds, who is developing the project.

“We’re excited to see more container projects entering the new urban density in DC," Travis said in a statement. "Projects across the country and across the pond keep pouring in to our repertoire these days. This project in particular has just the right kind of we live, we work, and we make tone, but more importantly it has that added touch of design magic for DC." [UT]
