A new project is moving forward that will add hundreds of apartments on the border of D.C.'s fast-growing NoMa and Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhoods.

Wood Partners announced Monday it began construction on a 327-unit project at 801 New Jersey Ave. NW, and it plans to open the building in 2023.

The project, branded as Alta 801, will have a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Its amenities will include a rooftop lounge with an indoor-outdoor bar and wine tasting parlor, a pool deck with cabanas, two outdoor courtyards with grilling areas, a coworking area with conference rooms, and a fitness center with a yoga studio.

The property sits at the intersection of New Jersey Avenue and H Street NW, one block from a Walmart. It is about a half-mile from Union Station, and it is the westernmost property within the NoMa Business Improvement District boundaries. It is also across the street from the eastern edge of the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District's boundary

"What really drove our decision to build in this location was the exceptional walkability and convenience that the community will offer to future residents," Wood Partners Executive Managing Director Scott Zimmerly said in a release.

Wood Partners in 2018 delivered another NoMa apartment building, The Belgard, a 346-unit project at 33 N St. NE. The Atlanta-based company was the fourth-most-active multifamily developer in the country with 5,178 units launched in 2020, according to the National Multifamily Housing Council.
