New In Town: Loudoun County
U.S. Customs and Border Protection
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency announced in March that it will move its Office of Information Technology to Loudoun County, bringing approximately 3,700 employees to 22001 Loudoun County Parkway. The CPB is expected to occupy 445K SF at the office park beginning in 2020.
This move is part of a larger push to get D.C.-based companies and government offices to relocate to Loudoun. Loudoun County provided the General Services Administration, which handles real estate for the federal government, $24.5M over the term of the 15-year lease.
This announcement comes as plans to expand the Silver Line to Loudoun come to fruition. The CBP’s future home will be a mile from the Ashburn Silver Line station, and the county will provide a free shuttle service from the station to the CBP office.
Trader Joe's
Popular grocer Trader Joe's has signed on to lease space at One Loudoun in Ashburn. This will be the first Trader Joe's in the county, coming after hundreds of residents campaigned to bring the chain to the neighborhood.
Trader Joe's will take over the former Fresh Market space at One Loudoun, joining nearby retail tenants World of Beer, Matchbox and Uncle Julio's.
Rocket Frog Brewery
Last month, twin brothers and beer connoisseurs Richard and David Hartogs opened Rocket Frog Brewery in Sterling, Virginia. The two, who worked alongside the Loudoun County Economic Development Authority to get the project off the ground, are just getting their feet wet in the beer business. The twins worked on YouTube’s The Better Beer Authority Beer Review show, and Richard briefly ran a craft beer drinking group on meetup.com, but this is their first brewery and retail venture.
The Hartogs brothers decided on Loudoun County because it had the most sensible parking requirements, and the zoning department was easily accessible. They also designed the brewery’s interior to meet modern expectations.
“We’ve designed our tasting room with the customer in mind, including 15 charging stations with AC plugs and USB ports,” Richard said. “We have 40 coat hooks throughout the room and we’re hiring a staff that will engage the customers.”
