Tysons Is Getting Its Second Athletic Field, Courtesy of Meridian Group
The Meridian Group has agreed to construct a full-size athletic field in Tysons as a condition of rezoning for its 4.2M SF mixed-use project nearby.
The field will be roughly two miles south of The Boro, Meridian’s redevelopment of the SAIC Campus. Plans call for a 180 foot wide by 360 foot deep field to be constructed at grade and contained by a fence of up to 30 feet to protect drivers on the Capital Beltway from any stray fly balls, the Washington Business Journal reports.
Tysons is currently bereft of athletic fields with the exception of Westgate Park. According to The Tyson Park System Concept Plan that was released in 2014, 13 more fields are planned as Tysons continues its evolution. The county planning commission is scheduled to review Meridian’s plans on Jan. 13.
The Boro, Meridian’s 18-acre mega-project, is scheduled to break ground this year. [WBJ]
