New Kids On The Block: Anacostia
Walgreens
Residential home prices are beginning to rise in Anacostia, and that means retailers are beginning to take notice. The popular pharmacy will be making the iconic Anacostia building its newest location after the property is renovated.
Walgreens will be the latest national retailer, following 7-Eleven and Little Caesars, to put down some roots in Anacostia.
Busboys & Poets
Next summer, Anacostia residents and visitors will have a new place to grab a bite and a beer or two. (We recommend the Bloody Marys.)
Busboys & Poets will offer a restaurant on the ground floor and a culinary school on the second. The local chain will open after finishing renovations on a former bowling alley at 2004-2010 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE.
Updates include adding about 10k SF to the nearly 21k SF the original structure held.
DC Government Offices
The DC government will be among the first tenants at 2355 Shannon Place after inking a nearly $50M lease that will send three government agencies to the brand-new office space. Curtis Investment Group owns the building, and Four Points has managed the redevelopment.
The deal will place the DC Taxicab Commission, The DC Lottery, and the DC Department of Transportation's Business Opportunity and Workforce Development Center to the 82k SF building for the next 15 years.
