Exclusive: AMT Relocates HQ While It Develops City View Tysons

The Association for Manufacturing Technology is temporarily relocating its HQ while it builds a 200k SF Tysons trophy office building on the site of its longtime home.

The trade association signed a three-year sublease with Apple for a 21.5k SF space at 7901 Jones Branch Drive in McLean, just around the corner from where its new HQ, City View Tysons, is being built. Apple recently bought the company that had been occupying the top floor, FoundationDB, and folded them into the tech giant's operations, leaving the space open for subleasing. Savills Studley repped AMT in its relocation.

“The Jones Branch sublease space presented an almost ideal opportunity for AMT to easily and economically make the transition to a newly built-out, highly functional office suite,” Savills Studley managing director Randy Atkins said in a release.

AMT is a 50% owner of City View Tysons, the trophy office building replacing its old HQ at 7901 Westpark Drive. It is partnering with American Real Estate Partners to develop the 10-story office tower, which sits a block from the Silver Line Metro station. AMT is planning to fill 30k SF of the building and is looking for other tenants to occupy the rest. If AMT finds a tenant looking to lease the full building, Randy says, it is willing to relocate its HQ elsewhere.

“Our move to transitional space was key to moving forward with our exciting City View project," AMT president Doug Woods said. “Not only is the transition space a great testbed for our future office designs, it’s so close to our City View project that we can watch it happen from the windows.”
