Could DC Become a Major Tech Hub?
As law firms and federal agencies reduce their real estate footprints, Boston Properties is looking to the tech sector to fill office space gaps in the Capital Beltway. The company will launch a nationwide campaign this summer to show companies like Google and Salesforce.com that DC and Reston are just as viable as tech hubs as Cambridge, MA, and San Francisco. Since Boston Properties has sold or leased space to those tech giants, that's where they plan to start their efforts, the Washington Business Journal reports. That doesn't mean Boston Properties is writing off traditional tenants. The developer's entertaining everything from law firms and government agencies to tech firms for its planned 520k SF building at 1001 Sixth St NW (pictured). Other real estate firms, like Vornado Realty Trust, are also looking to the tech sector. [WBJ]
