GSA Narrows Down Department Of Labor HQ Search To Three Options
One of NoMa, Capitol Riverfront or Poplar Point will soon be getting a new, roughly 1M SF office building.
The GSA has narrowed its search for a new Department of Labor HQ down to sites in those three neighborhoods, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The NoMa site is at North Capitol Street and New York Avenue NE, likely the undeveloped triangular block on the northeast of that intersection.
The Capitol Riverfront site sits at M Street SE and South Capitol Street, likely the northwest corner of the intersection that includes the Lot 754 parking lot and a 7-Eleven.
The Poplar Point site is bounded by I-295, Howard Road and Suitland Parkway in Anacostia. That site currently includes the Cedar Tree Academy, the DC Department of Mental Health and The Fresh Food Factory.
The Labor Department currently calls the 1.8M SF Frances Perkins Building, above, at 200 Constitution Ave NW its home. The agency would be downsized from its current footprint, as the GSA announced it is seeking 850k SF to 1.4M SF for the new HQ.
The GSA is considering swapping the 12-acre Frances Perkins Building site to a developer, as it is doing with the FBI HQ, which would create a unique development opportunity along the mall and steps from the Capitol. [WBJ]
