Meridian Group Lands Association Headquarters At Tysons Office Building
A nonprofit association is readying for a move to an office building owned by The Meridian Group that will bring it closer to public transit.
The International Association of Fire Chiefs plans to move its headquarters from Chantilly to the EastBoro I office building at 8251 Greensboro Drive in McLean, it announced Friday. It didn't disclose the square footage of the new lease.
The IAFC's move brings it closer to I-495, I-66 and the Greensboro Metro station on the Silver Line, and aligns with its post-pandemic recovery plans, the organization said.
"This is an exciting new time in the IAFC’s recovery from the pandemic," IAFC President Chief Donna Black said. "This location returns us to more functional office space, positions us better in the region, and offers access to mass-transit options for both existing and new IAFC staff."
The association entered into its lease at 4795 Meadow Wood Lane, Chantilly, in October 2017, and the lease commenced on March 1, 2018, according to tax documents made public in ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer. That lease was set to expire on Feb. 29, 2029.
IAFC didn't immediately return a request for comment from Bisnow on the lease's square footage, or the motivation behind moving before its lease expiration. The announcement said the new lease is effective Dec. 5.
The Meridian Group, the lead developer behind nearby mixed-use project The Boro, is the largest owner of commercial property in the area north of the Greensboro Metro station.
In 2017, Meridian closed a $227M deal with Beacon Capital Partners to acquire a four-property office portfolio that included IAFC's new home. At the time, the portfolio was 91% leased to roughly 40 tenants, the Washington Business Journal reported.
