Reston’s Proposed Tallest Building Is Getting Taller
Richard Whealen’s RTC Partnership and Akridge have modified their plans for 1760 Reston Pkwy.
Plans for the 418k SF tower project were first proposed by RTC in 2012. Akridge came on board as a partner, which prompted some changes to the proposed tallest building in Reston, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The building will remain at 23 stories, but modified plans call for it to increase in height from 295 to 330 feet. The increase was needed due to the addition of a 35-foot-tall glass screen that will shield the rooftop terrace from high winds. At 330 feet, 1760 Reston Pkwy would be at least 125 feet taller than anything around it.
Additional changes include a redesign of the façade, decorative metal panels for the garage, the creation of a six-story atrium lobby, and an expansion of the garage from five to six levels. The revisions will be considered by the county planning commission on May 18.
While 1760 Reston Pkwy may be the tallest building in Reston upon completion, it’s not the only massive project in the Reston pipeline. Back in March, Brookfield Properties filed a proposal to rezone two of its existing properties on Sunrise Valley Drive into a massive mixed-use development that would include 1.2M SF of offices, 64k SF of retail and over 2,000 residential units.
