Samsung is moving its government relations and public affairs offices, as well as a demonstration facility, to the Hine School redevelopment near Eastern Market.

Samsung announced it had signed a lease for more than 28K SF at 700 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, the office component of the mixed-use redevelopment of the Hine School, led by developer EastBanc. Samsung will join big-name corporate tenants Trader Joe's and Sephora at the project, where the pair have retail spaces.

The new space will not only serve as the headquarters for Samsung Electronics' U.S. Public Affairs division, it is also designed to cater directly to government clients with an interactive demonstration center and events space. D.C. is expected to benefit from increased government spending, and Samsung is betting that its new digs on Capitol Hill could position it to reap the rewards of loosened federal pocketbooks.

“At Samsung, we leverage our deep understanding of and experience with the Federal Government customer to develop mission-ready solutions,” Samsung Chief Information Officer Terry Halvorsen said in a release. "This new space at 700 Penn will be a center of innovation and provide opportunities to engage, support and educate government customers, policymakers and technology leaders.”
