Union Kitchen Update
Union Kitchen (which gives food entrepreneurs communal space to incubate their concepts) will open a second location in Ivy City this year. Co-founder Jonas Singer tells us to expect more of what's already at the original NoMa spot. “The core concept and layout is the same,” Jonas tells us, “but there will be a larger production kitchen, less wall, and fewer areas lost to dead space.” UK will take 17k SF at the new 1369 New York Ave location, and we're told it will also feature a café and market, and a concept that provides UK’s members an opportunity to sell and test their products on location.
Here's 1369 New York. UK houses 50 members at its NoMa location; the new space will allow for 70. Though UK hasn’t decided on how they will divide the spaces, Jonas says current members will, most likely, be given first option. (The early bird gets the worm. Then uses their prize to serve up delicious fried worms.) The project is still in the beginning phases of development, but is on schedule says Singer, with construction to begin early this summer.
