Buildings Becoming Bike-Friendly to Entice Renters

Placeholder

As bike lanes become more prevalent throughout the city, the number of residents choosing to commute by bicycle continues to grow. Several local buildings are hopping on board with the trend and offering bike-friendly amenities in a bid to entice renters.

For 2800 Woodley, that includes a secure bike storage space and a bicycle repair station in the garage. The storage space is monitored by video camera and can accommodate up to 40 bikes. Residents are provided with a separate key to access the caged area. The repair area includes tools and an air pump to handle basic maintenance needs. The storage space at 2800 Woodley is full and has a waiting list.

Biking as a commuting option continues to grow in DC. According to 2013 Census data, 4.5% of working residents commuted by bicycle in 2013. That equates to about 15,000 people, a substantial increase from the reported 2.2% in 2009. [WaPo]
